Course: General Chemistry

This course is still in development. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please find an alternate course from ADA or from another source. Thank you!

Course description:

Chemistry is the study of matter, energy, and the interaction between them.  Chemistry is sometimes called the "central science" because it connects other sciences to one another, such as biology, physics, geology, and environmental science.  A carefuly study of chemistry should enlarge the student's mind with deep questions:  What is the nature of matter?  Is matter finally just pure electricity?  Is matter continuous (a continual connection betwen the parts), or discreet (little individual "balls" called atoms)?   Why do leaves change color?  Why are plants green?   The list is endless. Is all matter finally just electrical charges?

This course consists of the formal study of modern chemistry (about 30 weeks long).

Publisher's Description:

General Chemistry is a chemistry curriculum for high school exhibiting Novare’s signature principles of Mastery, Integration and Kingdom Perspective. This fresh, lucid text brings students into the real world of chemistry and laboratory experiments.

General Chemistry is recommended for standard track students who are taking Algebra II simultaneously, usually in 11th grade. While there is not a great deal of mathematics in chemistry, sections that deal with calculating pH values require knowledge of logarithms, which normally encountered in Algebra II.
