Course description:

War and Peace is a monumental masterpiece of Russian literature based on Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812. As Napoleon's army invades, Tolstoy brilliantly paints the lives and character developments of the three prominent characters -- the illegitimate son Pierre Bezukhov, the skeptical Prince Andrei, and the dashing Natasha. Not only they, but peasants, civilians, soldiers, and other nobility struggle with their history, loves, and vices. Through these characters, Tolstoy touches on some of the deepest problems of human life.
